What is Aviane used for?

Aviane is a combination oral contraceptive pill that prevents pregnancy. Aviane comes in a tablet containing levonorgestrel and ethanol estradiol, and must be taken once daily for 21 consecutive days. For the following seven days, you can either take an inactive reminder pill at the same time you would take your regular pill, or you can stop taking your pills for seven days. How does Aviane work?

Aviane works by combining the hormones progestin and estrogen to prevent the release of an egg from the ovaries. Aviane also causes changes in the cervical mucus and uterine lining, making it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterine walls.
