What is Diane-35 used for?

Diane-35 is an oral tablet prescribed for the treatment of androgen-dependent acne, androgen-dependent alopecia, and mild forms of hirsutism. It can be prescribed as an oral contraception to prevent pregnancy for women who also require anti-androgen therapy. Diane-35 blocks the effect of male sex hormones, decreases excessive sebaceous gland function, inhibits ovulation, and changes the cervical mucus.

How does Diane-35 work?

Diane-35 works by combining cyproterone acetate, an antiandrogen, with ethinyl estradiol, an estrogen. The cyproterone acetate blocks the overproduction of certain androgens in the body, lessening or eliminating the stimulating effect of male hormones on androgen-dependent structure and functions. As a result, Diane-35 reduces the presence of acne and unwanted hair growth caused by androgens.
