What is premature ejaculation?
  • Premature ejaculation is a common form of sexual dysfunction estimated to affect up to 40% of men. Premature ejaculation is defined by anejaculatory latency time of less than one minute, while people with a latency of under 90 seconds have “probable” premature ejaculation. In other words, premature ejaculation is a sexual dysfunction in which a person with a penis ejaculates with minimal sexual stimulation, after less time than they would like, and with minimal control over ejaculation.
  • While premature ejaculation can potentially put a damper on your sex life, it is a highly treatable disorder with several treatment options including prescription treatments, therapy, and lifestyle changes.
What can cause premature ejaculation?

The causes of premature ejaculation remain unknown, but experts speculate that a variety of psychological and physical factors could contribute to this sexual dysfunction.

  • Potential psychological causes include:
  • depression
  • stress
  • anxiety
  • body image issues
  • low self-esteem
  • sexual repression
  • sexual trauma or history of abuse
  • post-traumatic stress disorder
  • sexual performance anxiety
  • relationship problems
  • Potential physical causes include:
  • penile sensitivity

What is the difference between premature ejaculation and erectile dysfunction?

While both are common forms of sexual dysfunction with the same road to diagnosis, they are actually quite different with distinct treatment options available. PE (premature ejaculation) is when someone loses control of ejaculation timing and ejaculates too quickly during sexual activity, while ED (erectile dysfunction) is when a someone is unable to get or maintain an erection in the first place.

Are there treatments for premature ejaculation?
  • There are a variety of off-label treatments that can be used to treat premature ejaculation, including oral prescription medications and topical treatments designed to act as a penile anesthesia to lessen sensitivity and increase the duration of an erection.  These treatment options can be discussed with and prescribed for you by a licensed healthcare practitioner. Beyond that, other options for treating premature ejaculation include:
  • Behavioural therapy to learn techniques for preventing spontaneous ejaculation, like the stop-start method, kegel exercises, or squeezing the base of the penis during sex.
  • Counselling or sex therapy to identify underlying psychological factors that could be contributing to your issues with sexual functioning.
  • Regular physical exercise.
  • Masturbating prior to sexual intercourse.
  • Using condoms specially designed to reduce penis sensitivity so you can last longer.
Can I get premature ejaculation treatments online?

With Felix, you can complete a short online assessment and then discuss treatment options with a Canadian healthcare practitioner. If applicable, any treatment will be directly shipped to your door.

Am I covered by my insurance?

Coverage varies greatly between different plans, provinces and has specific criteria that determine eligibility. We recommend that you upload your private and/or provincial benefit card during the online visit so that our pharmacy partner can apply any coverage you are eligible for before shipping your meds.

Life, meet quality.

Start living a life of convenience, comfort, and control with Felix.
